Combative Aikido has its roots in traditional
Aikido where the concept is to use your
attacker's energy against him. The difference
now is that more modern realistic training
methods have been added to make the art easier
to learn and practical for today's self-defense
purposes.
In the traditional sense, Aikido
is more of an energy learning experience. For
example, you will learn to use your opponents
energy against him by developing a sense on how
to manipulate it. If you were to travel to Japan
and train Iwama Aikido or at the Hombudojo, you
would find two very different training methods.
We at Martial Arts Unlimited are more into
modernizing martial arts to make them practice
and yet not abandon what the founder was trying
to accomplish. In order to accomplish this, we
incorporated more aliveness training and realism
into our techniques.
Therefore, learning Aikido from Martial Arts
Unlimited means learning a philosophy of combat.
As a beginner student, you will learn joint
locks, throws, and immobilizations in rough form
but in a way that will make it practical. As you
enter Phase II of your training (intermediate
level/blue belt), we will then begin showing you
a more graceful traditional method of Aikido.
By combing the two concepts, students will grasp
the reason of why we place "combative" in the
name. For more information, please contact a
